”এ টেল অফ টু সিটিজ” বইটির সম্পর্কে কিছু কথাঃতখন শীতকাল ~ নভেম্বরের শেষ। রাত্রি। ডােভারগামী রাজপথ। দিয়ে একখানি ডাকবাহী ঘােড়ার গাড়ি চলেছে। সম্মুখে একটি ছােট পাহাড়। নাম সুটার-পাহাড়। পথ গেছে তার ওপর দিয়ে। তাই সেখানে চড়াই। তার ওপর হাঁটু সমান কাদা; গাড়িখানিও মাল-পত্রে বােঝাই। সেজন্য কোচম্যান ও যাত্রী কয়েকজনকে নেমে গাড়ির পাশে পাশে চলতে হচ্ছে।তখন দিন-সময় এমন যে দেশে রাজা থাকলেও নগরে ও গ্রামে শান্তি-শৃংখলা ছিল না। অরাজকতা, চুরি, ডাকাতি, রাহাজানি, খুন লেগেই। ছিল। কে যে সৎ, কে যে দস্যু তা বােঝা ছিল কঠিন। কারণ, যে দিনে শান্তিরক্ষক সেই হয়তাে রাত্রে ডাকাতি করতে, মানুষ খুন করতেও তার বাধতাে না। দেশের এই রকম অবস্থার মধ্যে সেই ডাকগাড়িখানি ডােভারের দিকে অগ্রসর হচ্ছে। তাই তার কোচম্যান, রক্ষী, যাত্রী পরস্পর পরস্পরকে সন্দেহের চোখে দেখছে। কার মনে কি আছে কে বলবে? হয়তাে এখনই একটা খুন-জখম ও লুঠতরাজ হয়ে যেতে পারে। প্রচণ্ড শীতের জন্য প্রত্যেকেরই শরীর পােশাকে এমনভাবে ঢাকা যে। চোখ দুটি ছাড়া আর কিছু দেখা যায় না। তাই সবাইয়েরই মনে সন্দেহ প্রবল।কি ঘটলো এই রোমাঞ্চকর উপন্যাসের শেষে সেটা জানতে বইটি পড়ুন......
