The Fault In Our Stars is inspired by the author’s experiences while working with children suffering from life threatening diseases in a hospital. It is a witty, thrilling and heartbreaking story of a sixteen year old girl, Hazel, who is a cancer patient, and is forced by her parents to attend the Cancer Kid Support Group. Through her friend Isaac, she encounters Augustus Waters, an amputee and ex-basketball player. After the support group ends, Augustus suggests that they watch a movie at his house. There, they talk a lot and he gets to know of her favourite novel, An Imperial Affliction. After reading it, he too gets as obsessed with it as Hazel is. They begin to spend a lot of time together and soon fall in love. Augustus decides to use his wish from ‘The Genies’, a fictionalized version of the Make a Wish Foundation, to fly Hazel and himself to Amsterdam to meet the author of the book, Peter van Houten. What happens next is a funny yet touching tale of two young lovers, fighting a life threatening disease against all odds. It promises to touch the heart of the readers and show them the true meaning of being alive and in love. The Fault In Our Stars was a number one bestseller as per The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. It has been translated into numerous languages such as German, French, Chinese, Dutch and Portuguese. A film based on the book is slated for release in 2014 by Fox 2000, a division of 20th Century Fox. It is going to be directed by Josh Boone and will star Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.

"I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful." The Fault in Our Stars is a realistic fiction for young adults. The book is all about eternity of love, struggle to live with disease which is really an inevitable tragedy. There is a high possibility that you may cry thinking how cruel reality can be. The storyteller is a 16 year old cancer fighter Hazel Grace who meets many other kids like her in a Cancer Kid Support Group. Living with cancer, being different and fragile, counting your days upon diagnosis, the world looks detached for her and she finds her as a burden on others. Augustus Water, a bone cancer survivor, meets Hazel in the support group. Hazel, being on the verge of death, finds a new horizon of her life, discovers her life worth living. Yeah, we are helpless in the wave of brutal irony of life but even though life is worth living, aeon of love can fill in your numbered days. The flower of love can bloom even in a dying tree and make it's life worth living. The story is like a roller coster ride that comes to end too soon. It has one the most unpredictable storylines, it surely made me upset and satisfied at the same time. Though I'm never a lovestory-loving person, the book really touched my heart.
Review Writer: Khandaker Zakerah Zara Book's Name: The fault in our stars Author: John Green Genre: Novel, Young adult fiction, Romance. Publisher: Penguin group Review no: 01 *First of all : The fault in our stars, comes from a line in Shakespeare's play in Julius Ceaser where Cassius says, "The fault, dear Brutus is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings. "Deep, much? Cassius seems to be saying that it's not fate that dooms men, but instead their own failings. Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16-year-old with thyroid cancer that has spread to her lungs, attends a cancer patient support group at her mother's behest. At one meeting, Hazel meets a 17-year-old boy currently in remission named Augustus Waters, whose osteosarcoma caused him to lose his right leg. Hazel and Augustus embark on a roller coaster ride of emotions, including love, sadness and romance, while searching for the author of their favourite book. In the end, the love of Hazel Grace's life, Augustus Waters, dies. He's 17. Through his death Hazel is able to learn some things about herself, her take on morality, and her role in the world. *Best quote: "You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful. " "But it is the nature of stars to cross, and never was Shakespeare more wrong than when he has Cassius note, 'The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars/ But in ourselves." *Main Message: In fact, depression is not a side effect of cancer. Depression is a side effect of dying. As a whole, we spend a great deal of time trying to avoid pain but, if we read carefully, "The fault In Our Stars" also teaches us that "pain demands to be felt" and "the universe likes to be noticed." "No matter how we try, Augustus is right -we don't get to choose if we get hurt; it is a near certainly that we will. *My thoughts: I really loved the book. It's my favourite. It's a brilliant story to be recommended to everyone regardless their age and gender. It has also given me a great message. And John Green is my all-time favourite author. #rokomari_book_club_review_competition #রকমারি_বুক_রিভিউ_প্রতিযোগিতা_২০২১
